You may be wondering what this group accountability is all about. We chose to make this piece one of the most important parts of this challenge for a couple of reasons. First, this is exactly what GLC is all about…community. We are not alone in our fitness journey, and we are not alone in this nutrition journey either! We are all actively involved while cheering each other on at the same time. Second, when we know others are going to look at what we eat, we think twice about justifying eating things we know we shouldn’t. Finally, looking at each others’ food choices helps with ideas about what to eat!
Now that we’ve established the “why” behind the groups you were assigned to, we will talk about the “how.” Accountability partners are expected to:
1. Check in with members of your group regularly. “Regularly” means different things to different people. If you need extra support yourself, reach out to someone. Either way, you should be checking in with group members about 4-5 times a week. You can accomplish this through Facebook (starting a group chat is easy from the group), or you can exchange numbers and text. How you communicate isn’t as important as that you DO communicate.
2. Look at each others’ food diaries in MFP daily, or close to it. If they forget to log their food, remind them! If you see that they are eating junk, lovingly call them out. This is what you should expect, since you signed up for this challenge, so don’t feel bad providing this guidance to others. We all need a little tough love from time to time. On the other hand, offer encouragement, support, and virtual (or in-person) high-fives when they do something awesome!
This is such a huge portion of this challenge, and your progress with this will be considered when we award winners for this challenge in December. So stay active! Be committed! Hold each other accountable!
