They really get to know each member

and what their limits are…

1. What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I started CrossFit because I was tired of not being physically active and trying to fight off depression. I had just come off being laid up from a wicked knee injury from Judo but I didn’t want to go to a regular gym because I already felt so isolated being alone in my apartment and then at work. I didn’t want to add to that by being alone at the gym. When Stacey told me she owned a gym with her husband, I figured “what the heck, might as well try out this CrossFit thing and see what it even is”
2. What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression of the gym was that it was a group setting. As I continued going, I realized it was everything I was looking for: a great workout and a team environment. The perfect replacement for the martial arts that I couldn’t return to yet. What really impressed me, though, was just how caring Stacey and Anthony were about not just my safety and well-being (coming in with a knee injury and later dealing with an ankle injury) but everyone’s. They really get to know each member and what their limits and capabilities are and were more than happy to work with you to find variations.
3. What was your first “bright spot”?
My first truly giddy moment was when I was able to do a handstand against a wall. It was a dream of mine for most of my childhood and adult life and I had finally realized that dream! I was so excited that I made everyone at the gym watch me do another one 🙂
4. What are you working on now?
I am currently working on trying to do a handstand walk. It’s going to take some time and practice, but I absolutely believe that I will be able to do it.
5. What’s your favorite GLC memory?
I would have to say that one of my favorite memories is one time when we were doing a heavy lifting day. Jess and I would alternately do our lifts (in our own station) and then one of us would start dancing and/or singing along with the music during the rest time which would set the other one off and in the end we would just start laughing, then jump right back into our lifts. That actually tends to happen pretty often.
6. How has CrossFit positively impacted your life?
CrossFit, and GLC in specific, has made a huge impact on my life. I feel better than I ever have and I actually look forward to working out. Sometimes the workout kicks my butt, however, the people who are around me make it well worth it. It also acts as the best stress relief. I know that after a rough day, I can go there and get it all out and get some laughs (and random dancing) in too! It definitely acts as a social setting for me, which is something I really need.
